2020
/Someone once told me that if you don’t have goals, you’ll never know if you achieved anything. Life will happen to you, but you will not happen to life. In that spirit, I wanted to write down a few goals, but before that…
I want to acknowledge that right now I have quite a few of the things that I’ve always wanted: a nice apartment (pictured above), a favorite coffee-shop within walking distance, and that warm sense of community that only comes with age. Before I dive into 2020, I want to stop and appreciate things as they are right now.
So what’s gonna happen this year? For starters, I’ll be starting a YouTube channel. I watch YouTube often and think the medium is interesting, interesting enough to use it, in fact! I’ve been practicing on my Instagram stories and I feel comfortable enough in front of a camera to commit. Plus, it’ll be good for my overall brand…..
….because later this spring, I’ll be taking real estate classes. One of my best friends became an agent last year and is loving it and thinks I’d be good at it, too. I’ve held off getting a “real job” because I wanted my talents and passions to lead the way and it feels like they’re leading in this particular direction. Real estate combines some of my favorite things (albeit, in unexpected ways) things, like, hospitality, meeting new people, and spending December on the beach - ha!
I also have two freelance jobs lined up for 2020, but haven’t signed anything yet, so I’m staying quiet. I’ve learned it’s best to celebrate after you sign on the dotted black line, you know? But I’ll announce both (hopefully!) soon.
For 2020, I’d say my top goal is to tell myself different stories. When I was in my teens, I went through a period of extreme loneliness and it really affected me. I’ve had good friendships for years but up until recently, there was always this restlessness inside of me. Over the past two years, that restlessness has settled down, but I still finding myself behaving as if that old story is still my story.
It’s funny how we can lead a better life than before but still behave as if things haven’t changed at all. This year, I want to stay diligent and stay engaged with this story, the one I’m actually living in. I also want to be more generous, travel a lot of more, and enjoy the ride that is life. It’s already going fast and I’m not even that old - ha!
Thanks for reading! Last month, one post alone had a little over a thousand views! I appreciate you stopping by my little digital corner. Stay warm out there and I’ll check back in soon.
